The Bowmore Distillery’s No. 1 Vaults, on the Isle of Islay, is said to be the world’s oldest Scotch maturation warehouses dating back nearly a quarter century. If these walls could talk I’m sure they’d have some interesting tales to tell. The distillery has just announced the release of an exclusive 19 year old single malt whisky. It’s not unusual for a distillery to offer an exclusive bottle at the distillery but in this case this bottle is available exclusively via online giant Amazon.com.
This limited edition of 4,500 bottles of Bowmore Single Malt Scotch has been aged for 19 years in first-fill ex-Chateau Lagrange French oak barriques and is the first time this age and cask maturation have been released to the public. The other caveat here is although its available via Amazon, its distribution is limited to the less than six countries none of which include the United States. It’s available in the UK and Germany now and soon France, Italy, Spain and Japan. The good news is that if you live in the UK, it does qualify for one-day delivery via Amazon Prime. This alone could rocket up Amazon Prime membership.

The company says new expression offers aromas of candied apple, honey and Bowmore®’s signature light peat smoke, developing into rich toffee, wild honey and exotic spices on the palate. Balanced with a finish of summer fruits and warm peat smoke, this carefully crafted single-malt is best savoured neat or over ice.

This limited edition Bowmore 19 Year Old French Oak Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is bottled at 97.8 proof (48.9% ABV) with a suggested retail price of £129 or about $167 US for a 700 ml bottle. It’s available now in the UK and Germany.
