Production Associate

Southern Distilling Company is a family-owned company based in Statesville, North Carolina, whose rich distilling heritage dates back to 1750. A high-capacity production craft distillery, we offer cost competitive contract distilling services, including bulk spirits production of custom mash bill non-GMO whiskeys, rums, and agave spirits, batching and blending of specialties and liqueurs, as well as, barrel warehousing and copackaging services. Our fine Destination Distillery offers Tours & Tastings, as well as, beer, wine, and craft cocktails, highlighting our award-winning Southern Star Bourbon, Rye, and Liqueur product line.


The Production Associate is a versatile position requiring a range of skill sets and working environments. This position is involved in bottling, packaging, warehousing, record keeping, mash cooking, fermenting, distilling, general labor, equipment maintenance, cleaning and fabrication assistance. Successful candidate must have professional communication skills, be versatile, ambitious, self-tasked and open to a fluid daily schedule, with a keen attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

Assist production team:

  • Maintain standards of cleanliness
  • Operate grain handling equipment
  • Operate Mashing and Distillation Equipment
  • Record daily production logs relating to mashing, distillation, sampling, bottling, shipping and receiving
  • Collect, interpret, and input data
  • Operate distillery software management systems
  • Record and report inventory
  • Maintain equipment to ensure operating standards
  • Communicate and organize shipping and receiving logistics
  • Monitor equipment controls and report abnormal activity
  • Operate of heavy equipment, such as forklift, scissor lift, and tractor
  • Prioritize tasks and execute them
  • Complete tasks independently
  • Take ownership of not only your own, but the team’s work

The ideal candidate will have successfully completed some higher education coursework in Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry or Food Science as part of a completed Bachelor’s degree curriculum, or can demonstrate a thorough understanding based on years of experience in a related working field, or be ready, willing and able to learn these aspects of the work.

Additional qualifications

  • Can lift 50 lbs
  • At least 21 years old
  • Valid NC Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Has no alcohol-related offences on their record
  • Strong orientation toward quality control and safety
  • Basic knowledge of fermentation and distillation
  • Knowledge and ability to implement lean manufacturing practices
  • Communicates well with co-workers and customers
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Cares about the customer and provides exemplary customer service at all times
  • Comfortable with computers, Office software, iOS apps
  • Physically capable of working on feet, standing for long period of time, sitting, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, and kneeling
  • Strives for excellence in their work
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism in both personal and professional life

Saturday hours are required. This is a part-time position averaging 20-30 hours a week, with future opportunity for full-time.Entry-level compensation is $12/hour.
