Hard Truth Distilling makes hand-crafted distilled spirits that seek to build clear flavors with smooth carriage and a quality experience in every sip. Since our founding in 2015, we’ve developed a production program featuring gin, rum, vodka, and cinnamon vodka. We have also been building and maintaining an aged spirits program, the first product of which is made with 100% blue agave, the first agave spirit to be distilled in Indiana. We’ve also put back many barrels of bourbon and rye whiskey that will be ready when our head distiller says they are.
Hard Truth Distilling Company is the newest branch of the Big Woods Restaurants and Quaff ON! Brewery family. So, we endure the hard truths, savor the hard liquor, and work diligently toward a life lived well.
Hard Truth Distillery sits on 325 acres of wooded hills, just down the road from our original restaurant in scenic Brown County, Indiana. Our new distillery home is an incredible destination for our friends, fans, and folks who are interested in what we’re doing here up on the hill, a place with a full restaurant, a wide selection of craft beers on tap and of course a full selection of Hard Truth craft spirits and cocktails. Hard Truth Distilling Craft Spirits
Hard Truth Rum: Premium Black Pearl Select Molasses and Pure sugar cane are the backbone of our fine rum. We ferment our rum using a Caribbean island strain of yeast isolated to create fruity, rich flavors. It’s then distilled twice at a low proof to retain a robust flavor and then proofed down using pure Brown County water and then it’s bottled at 80 proof. Learn more here.
Hard Truth Barrel Aged Rum: Just like our original Rum our aged rum uses Premium Black Pearl Select Molasses and Pure sugar cane only this rum is placed in 53 gallon American White Oak barrels for up to two years before bottling. The result is a dark amber colored spirits with rich oak, smooth caramel and vanilla notes, and sweet rum finish. This 82 proof aged rum is perfect for sipping neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail. Hard Truth Gin – This Indiana distilled spirit is as unique as Brown County, where it was hand-crafted. Drop all your preconceptions about Gin. The lighter use of juniper and 12 unique botanicals as well as generous amount of fresh citrus creates a surprisingly refreshing citrus forward Gin, like nothing you have tried before. Hard Truth Gin is an easy drinking gin by itself on shaved ice, or a great base to lay down with some Ginger beer. Hard Truth Gin has really been shown to convert non-gin drinkers in just one sip. Hard Truth Vodka – Our premium vodka is handcrafted in small batches using 100% wheat mashbill. Through careful distillation and carbon process, the resulting spirit is clean on the palette with a subtle sweet finish. We bottle it at 80 proof. Learn more here.
Cinnamon Flavored Vodka – This spirit really begins its fun post distillation. Starting with 80 proof Hard Truth Vodka, we infuse two sources of natural cinnamon and lightly sweeten with pure cane sugar to give it a smooth, delicate finish that makes you want to “try another.” And at 60 proof, it’s easy to have another. Hard Truth Agave Spirit – To make the Hard Truth Agave Spirit, our distillers sourced the highest quality, non-GMO certified, 100% blue agave nectar to ferment. During the fermentation process, floral, earthy notes developed in the spirit’s flavor, and it was distilled at a low proof to retain the full character. The agave was aged in used whiskey barrels for just under a year and finished it on French oak staves. The final, non-chill filtered product is 86 proof and offers a delicate, sweet fruit flavor with subtle mocha notes.
Our Agave Spirit also helped to make Indiana history. According to records from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, Hard Truth was the first Indiana distillery to ferment, distill and sell agave spirits. Learn more here.
Hard Truth Bourbon and Rye Whiskey on the Way
Our bourbon and rye whiskies have been fermented, distilled and barreled. They are now gently aging in our barrel warehouse just waiting for the day beginning in 2019 that our Head Distiller says they are ready.
