Michter’s Distillery’s parent company Chatham Imports is now in the mezcal business. Chatham Imports, a global supplier of premium spirits and wine brands and a consortium led by brothers Eduardo and Julio Mestre have formed a new 50/50 venture to own the global trademark rights to the celebrated super-premium mezcal Los Siete Misterios.
11 years ago in 2010, Julio and Eduardo founded Mestre with one thing in mind: to respect and preserve the mezcal making traditions, as well as to promote local commerce and stimulate the culture of small mezcal producers. The company says they focus on being respectful of one of the purest essences: the mezcal and its genuine Mexican heritage. Los Siete Misterios offers a wide range of mescals including Doba Yej, a copper pot-distilled EspadÃn; an Ancestral line of clay pot-distilled EspadÃn, Barril, Mexicano, Coyote, Arroqueño and Tobalá; Ensamble collection of copper pot-distilled EspadÃn and wild agave blends; and special releases including a Pechuga expression.
Under the agreement, Chatham becomes the exclusive global sales and marketing agent for Los Siete Misterios, excluding Mexico, while the Mestres remain responsible for the production of Los Siete Misterios as well as sales in Mexico. This new partnership, which entails an equity investment by Chatham, will bolster Los Siete Misterios’ production capacity and enhance the brand’s route-to-market within the United States and abroad.
