Consumer interest in distilled spirits may be feeling some headwinds recently but the interest to acquire or merge with Brown-Forman is heating up like the top floor of a rickhouse on a hot Kentucky summer day.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Sazerac has offered to purchase Brown-Forman for $15 billion or around $32 a share. Brown-Forman has a current market cap of about $13.5 billion, making it about a 11% premium. 11% doesn’t sound like much but at this level that’s a $1.5 billion premium.
Will Pernod Ricard counter? Time will tell.
