Whether you spell it BBQ, Barbeque or Barbecue, it’s the taste of America. You like your Bourbon aged and smooth and your BBQ slow-cooked and savory, Wilderness Trail Distillery can fill the bill for both when it has its second Bourbon release and hosts the eighth annual Kentucky State BBQ Festival Sept. 6-8, 2019.

This special event coincides with the return of the KY State BBQ Festival to our 44-acre campus. This weekend is all about enjoying the food created by celebrity pitmasters, shopping with a variety of vendors, and enjoying music by several bands.

Bragging rights and BIG – BIG ASS trophies are up for grabs to the winners!       Tim Mikeska is CEO of Mikeska’s Bar-B-Q Inc. and owns Mikeska Brands. Raised in Taylor Texas, and son of the dean of Texas Pitmasters, Rudy Mikeska, Tim learned to cook at an early age and grew up making sausage and catering Texas Bar-B-Q with his father.

      Presenter Steve Coomes, Bourbon+ magazine contributor In a recent Bourbon+ Magazine, noted food and drinks writer Steve Coomes wrote a 10-page feature about how to best pair Bourbon with barbecue. What he learned surprised him. In this demo, Steve will pair Wilderness Trail Bourbon and rye with various barbecue cuts, while explaining why Bourbon and barbecue are a match made in heaven (in case you needed more proof!) You won’t want to miss this savory adventure.

      Moderated by Kevin Gibson, writer for Bourbon+ magazine, with Wilderness Trail tasting team When you walk into a liquor store, you’re no doubt seeing the terms, “barrel proof” or “cask strength.” In this informative discussion and tasting, Bourbon+ writers and Wilderness Trail team members elaborate on the virtues of getting bourbon straight from the barrel. After all, you can always add water. But can you get your proof back when it’s bottled at 80 proof?

      The members of Hi-5 come from all walks of life and different musical experiences. We have merged our love and passion for music into a high level band. Excellent vocals and great instrumentalists are our calling card. All of the members of Hi-5 are seasoned professionals with 40+ years of experience and have developed a high energy show that includes Rock, Country, Motown and Funk.

      Ben has played locally in his hometown of Lexington, Kentucky with many bands, ranging in styles from jazz/funk to dance to metal. Around 2000, Ben became a solo act, but still enjoys a duet with Bob Bryant, bass extraordinaire. The duo has had the honor of opening for Tower of Power twice in Kentucky. Outside of Kentucky Ben has performed around North America and in Europe.
