2016 has been an amazing year for the distilled and craft spirits industry. The number of active distilleries that once dwindled to a mere handful in the 1,930s has grown to more than 1,300. As outdated Prohibition laws slowly change the industry is generating more state and federal tax revenues, putting more people to work and investment dollars continue to flow in. 2016 tales of startups run the gamut from long dead distilleries rising from the ashes to new distilleries springing up from a passing conversation of long lost heirloom grains, to barrels made from the top part of a tree, to water sourced from San Francisco fog catchers. Oh the possibilities.
