The city of Lebanon just down the road from the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky is adding a mural to its 135-foot water tower to make it look like the world’s largest Maker’s Mark pour. The artwork will highlight the nearby distillery, the biggest tourist attraction in the area. City leaders believe the attraction will draw more Kentucky Bourbon Trail tourists to their downtown.
According to the Lebanon Enterprise, the cost for the entire project including paint, labor, and the artwork will be approximately $53,300. The expense for the mural will be paid by the Lebanon tourism commission.
Famed mural artist Eric Henn was hired to create the mural. Eric has been creating large-scale murals for more than 21 years. Many of his works are featured at aquariums, zoos and theme parks all over the country. You can visit Eric’s website here to see more of his work. The work has already started and is expected to take four to six weeks to be complete.
Could you imagine what this tower would be worth if it was really filled with bourbon?
After the painting is completed 10,000 tourists from the nearby distillery are expected to stop by to help hand dip the tower into the community’s swimming pool that will be filled with 2,000 gallons of molten red wax before the tower is set into permanent concrete footings. Don’t look for champagne at this christening, this baby will be christened with the finest bottle of Maker’s Mark you have ever seen!
