Over the last 10 years the average Kentucky Derby winning time is about 2 minutes and 2 seconds. When the Bourbon Crusaders held their 2022 annual fund raiser charity event at the Kentucky Derby Museum this week it only took 8 seconds more to auction off a 10-year-old barrel of Willett Family Estate Bourbon for $225,000. Now that is what I call cash on the barrel head.
In the last 12 months the Bourbon Crusaders, a small group of like-minded bourbon lovers from all over the U.S., has helped to raise millions of dollars for charitable causes.
The Bourbon Crusaders, founded in 2015, is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization focused on their collective passion for bourbon and raising funds for a range of charitable purposes. The Crusaders have 30 members from across the US, with a wide range of backgrounds, from farmers to lawyers, firefighters to authors, distillers and more.
Since its founding the Bourbon Crusaders’ charity events have raised over $5 million in support of people struggling from Crohn’s & Colitis, ALS (the disease that took Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame Master Distiller Parker Beam), cancer, hunger, and most recently, the Western Kentucky tornado in December 2021 and the Eastern Kentucky floods in July of this year.

The Bourbon Crusaders just wrapped up what would be their ‘regular’ annual event and fund raiser this week. Between Covid lock downs, a tornado relief funder raiser and a 1000-year flood relief fund raiser there hasn’t been much that falls under the ‘regular’ category for the last couple of years. Through it all Bourbon Crusaders have remained true to their philanthropic goals and raised more than $5 million dollars since their founding.
We’ll be sharing a full story about all the funds raised for the American Heart Association from the 2022 ‘Straight from the Heart’ event very soon.
In the meantime, watch as a single barrel of Willett Distillery’s 10-year single barrel pick goes from $15,000 to $225,000 in about 2 minutes and 10 seconds.
