Independent Stave Company Opens 6th Stave Mill to Keep Up with Barrel Demand

As the global thirst for bourbon continues to grow, so does the need for new American Oak barrels in the United States. To keep up with demand Independent Stave Company has just opened its sixth stave mill to provide wood to its cooperage’s.

The new mill known as Benton Wood Products is located in Benton, Kentucky. The new state-of- the-art mill in Western Kentucky is located on 48 acres strategically located near high quality white oak forests that will allow Independent Stave Company to have additional production capacity and flexibility. The mill is now fully operational and processing high-quality staves and heading for the company’s cooperage’s in both Kentucky and Missouri. The company now owns seven stave mills in total, one in France and six in the United States.

“Benton Wood Products was strategically built in bourbon country with access to premium American oak,” said Brad Boswell, Chief Executive Officer of Independent Stave Company. “We firmly support the continued growth of Kentucky’s bourbon industry and the wine and spirits sector in general. We remain committed to providing our customers with a wide range of high quality, readily available barrels and oak products.”

Justin Nichols, a 20-year veteran at Independent Stave Company has been appointed general manager of the Benton Wood Products mill.

Independent Stave Company was founded by T.W. Boswell in 1912. The company remains a family-owned cooperage run by the fourth generation of Boswells with customers in more than 40 countries.
