Sagamore Spirit Distillery has just announced an expansion to its rye whiskey lineup with a new Sagamore Reserve Vintner’s Finish rye whiskey. The latest limited time offering brings a new complexity to the brand’s signature Maryland-style rye. Vintner’s Finish at 98 proof is aged in casks that were previously home to premium red wine and port, ultimately revealing notes of cherry and cinnamon without taming the original rye’s distinctly spicy dry finish.

“We decided to have a little fun and experiment with finishes,” said Sagamore Spirit President Brian Treacy. “Taking risks is one of the best parts of making whiskey, and finishing our rye in wine barrels proved to be one well worth taking. I’m proud of the team for imagining and creating such a fantastic finished product.”
The 98-proof rye whiskey is the third limited release from Sagamore Spirit, following Double Oak Rye Whiskey, which finishes the spirit in a second “wave stave” oak barrel to create flavors of caramel and dark vanilla, and Moscatel Barrel Finished Whiskey, which is finished in moscatel wine barrels to reveal a surprising blend of fruit and spice. Every variety of Sagamore Spirit rye is proofed with locally-sourced, limestone-filtered spring water transported 22 miles from Sagamore Farm to the distillery.
This limited release of Sagamore Spirit Vintner’s Finish Rye Whiskey is now at the distillery and around Maryland and Washington, D.C.
