Distilleries across the U.S. include small farm distilleries, micro distilleries, craft distilleries as well as what the some of the largest distilleries in the world. The Kentucky Distillers’ Association calls their big one’s their Heritage members.

By far, the largest number of the 700 plus distillers across the country are small businesses. These are the “Makers”, the movers and shakers of the industry. Not because they are large, but because they are the one’s that are pushing the industry to try new flavors or new techniques never heard of in the past. These are the makers that embrace the past but strive for the future. They are small businesses.

Each year since 1963, the president has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of National Small Business Week.  National Small Business Week is set as the first week in May, and this year the dates are May 1-7 with national events planned in Washington, D.C., New York City, Atlanta, Denver, Phoenix and San Jose and Oakland, California.
