Four Roses Celebrates 130th Anniversary with Limited Edition Small Batch Release Mingling of OBSV, OBSF, OESV and OESK

Four Roses Bourbon fans will be celebrating Bourbon Heritage Month on September 15th this year as the distillery has just announced the release of their 130th Anniversary Limited Edition Small Batch.

Four Roses - The Return of a Whiskey Legend

Back in 1888, Paul Jones, Jr., was the first person to register the trademark for the Four Roses name. Legend has it the name can be traced back to a love story between Paul Jones, Jr. and a beautiful Southern Belle, a Belle that denied his offer of marriage repeatedly for years. According to the book, Four Roses – The Return of a Whiskey Legend by Four Roses Brand Ambassador Al Young, a budding romance started the brand. Jones had asked his love to marry him for more than five years. “Finally, when he was in Columbus (Georgia) for a large dance, he decided that he would ask her to marry him just once more and if the answer was no he would not ask her again.” The story goes on to say, “He sent my (now) grandmother a dozen roses and in it he wrote this card – ‘for over five years I have asked you to marry me. Tonight I ask you for the last time. If the answer is yes, wear a corsage of four roses, if it is no, don’t wear any.'”

“That night when she came down the steps dressed for the dance, I am sure Granddaddy’s heart missed a few beats, for she wore a corsage of four roses. In his heart, he resolved to make that memory always last. Thus, to the best and most popular brand of whiskey he gave the name “Four Roses.”

Four Roses 2018 Limited Edition 130th Anniversary Release – OBSV, OBSF, OESV and OESK

Four of Four Roses’ unique Bourbon recipes were selected for the 130th Anniversary Limited Edition Small Batch. This bottling will feature a mingling of four bourbons ranging in age from 10 to 16 years.

16-year-old OESK

Four Roses is the only Bourbon distillery that combines two mashbills with five proprietary yeast strains to produce 10 distinct Bourbon recipes, each with its own unique characteristics. In the beginning stages of handcrafting a limited edition bottling, Master Distiller Brent Elliott creates countless test batches from select barrels, in an effort to mingle the best Limited Edition offering.

“For this Limited Edition Small Batch, I wanted to create something very special to celebrate the 130th anniversary of our brand,” said Four Roses Master Distiller Brent Elliott. “From the beginning of the process, I focused on building around the unique fruit flavors in our F and V yeast strains, and these flavors shine through in the finished product. As a contrast, I also included a spicy, older batch. By mingling these different flavor profiles, I think we achieved a wonderfully balanced, complex and unique Bourbon. I could not be happier with the result and can’t wait for you to taste it.”

The distillery says this 130th Anniversary Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon is bottled at barrel strength, 108.3 proof (54.2% ABV) and offers rich vanilla, raspberries and ripe berries, and crème brulee on the nose. As it hits the palate, it opens into flavors of apricot, mint, cinnamon, apple and mellow oak. This Bourbon boasts a very long finish, with hints of cinnamon, more fruit and vanilla.

The bottling will launch during Bourbon Heritage Month beginning with limited quantities at the Four Roses Distillery and Warehouse & Bottling Facility Visitor Centers on Saturday, September 15 beginning at 9 a.m. The Limited Edition Small Batch will roll out to additional select retailers in the weeks following.

Four Roses will distribute approximately 13,140 hand-numbered bottles of the 130th Anniversary Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon with a suggested retail price of $140.
