The inaugural Michter’s US1 Barrel Strength Rye whiskey came out in May 2015. What makes Michter’s unique is their freshly distilled spirits enter the barrel at a lower proof. As the barrels mature they general increase in proof and in the case of the barrel strength whiskey no water is added so the final yield is a richer, smoother, more full-bodied whiskey after maturation.
“Our team has been turning out some wonderful Kentucky style ryes over the years, and this 2021 release continues that trend,” said Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco.
Regarding this first release since April 2019 Master Distiller Dan McKee commented, “I was really happy when we tasted these barrels. This release has so much of what I look for in a rye.”
“These barrels are at just the right point to highlight the beautiful nuances of a great rye whiskey. This release is a powerhouse,” said Michter’s Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson.
Michter’s has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter’s highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey. Currently all types of Michter’s are being allocated because demand exceeds supply.
Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye March 2021 single barrel release is bottled at 110.3 proof (55.2% ABV) and sells with a suggested retail price of $100 for a 750ml bottle. Michter’s Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey will available on a national and international basis this March.
