For the first time in nine years, Michter’s Distillery has announced the release of their 25 year old Michter’s Limited Release Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Barreled in 1992 and held in American White Oak barrels for a quarter century, this rare whiskey is ready for distribution to the public.

A close look at the bottle image below shows this bottle is 1 of 316. I checked with Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco and he told me they don’t share production numbers but clarified that this 25 year old bourbon release is part of a small batch release, not a single barrel product.
He added, “This 25 Year whiskey is whiskey that we sourced after it had already been made. It was selected because it is great and in the style we wanted to emulate when we made whiskey ourselves.” Michter’s officially became a licensed distiller of its own products in 2012.

Maggliocco said, “At Michter’s we have gone years without releasing certain types, 25 Year Bourbon included. During our tasting of older stocks, Master Distiller Pam Heilmann tasted this 25 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon with our Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson, and she decided to make this 2017 release.”
Michter’s Master Distiller Pam Heilmann said, “I take the Michter’s ‘Dr. No’ position as the gatekeeper for releasing whiskey very seriously. When I tasted this 25 Year Bourbon, I knew immediately it was perfectly aged.”

Here are the tasting notes for the latest 25 year old bourbon as provided by Michter’s Distillery.
The Michter’s Limited Release Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a complex whiskey great mouthfeel. A symphony of flavors plays at different points on the palate with molasses, chocolate, holiday spice, smoke roasted nuts, dried fruit, melted butter and vanilla providing the highlights.
The Michter’s Limited Release 25 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is expected to go on sale November 1st, 2017. The 25 year old bourbon is 116.2 proof and has a suggested retail price for a 750ml bottle of $800.
