The Kentucky Derby has been run on the first Saturday in May continuously since 1875. The only exception to this was a delay in 1945 because of World War II and now in 2020 because of the Coronavirus. This years Kentucky Derby has been postponed until the first Saturday in September, September 5, 2020. And wouldn’t you know it the weather in Kentucky on this first Saturday in May is 80 degrees, sunshine and blue skies, go figure.
Though the race is not happening today there are two things everyone should enjoy. A hardy version of ‘My Old Kentucky Home’ and a classic Mint Julep.
